Position Duties And Responsibilities

Expanding the role of Psychology in Medicine is our mission, addressing the unique needs of individuals suffering from health challenges.
Services provided include initial assessment, psychodiagnostic testing, brief psychotherapy with both patients and families, differential diagnosis, and the provision of recommendations regarding risk factors to maximize success with medical interventions. Psychologists will be trained to conduct surgical clearance evaluations, as well as pre and post consultation to assist with maximizing surgical readiness in the areas of bariatric candidacy, transplant candidacy, and pain management procedures.
Psychologists will function within inpatient settings on multidisciplinary treatment teams, to identify cognitive, personality, psychosocial, and mood factors which may interfere with maximum outcomes. Psychologist’s clinical scope may include risk assessment of suicidal ideation, cognition evaluation of altered mental status, and consultation with the treatment team concerning the management of behavioral problems and discharge disposition.
Desired Technical And Professional Skills And Experience
Interaction with physicians and medical staff is integral to our role. Team conferences occur with attending physicians, nurses, rehabilitation therapists and case management staff. Therefore, readiness to provide feedback on methods to improve medical outcomes and reduce mental health barriers is essential to a patient’s treatment plan.
Ideal candidates should have familiarity with medical diagnoses which can impact one’s psychological adjustment due to functional limitations. Knowledge of the biopsychosocial model of health and illness, along with risk factors regarding compliance is preferred. The psychologist is expected to assist in the development of admission protocols to address mental health needs within specific medical services, such as Cardiac Care, Stroke Rehabilitation, and Amputation Protocols. Timely documentation and report writing skills expected.
Licensed or license eligible in Texas is required.

Psychologists can expect to be supported with training, as well as regular collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Clinical Services.
Salary range $90-110k plus benefits
